Hidden Speakers: Home Audio for People Who Dislike Clutter
Whole-Home Audio without Equipment in Sight
A new home holds so much promise: sleek, long floors and clean, empty walls. But that open space disappears once we move in and fill our homes with belongings.
Want to maintain that minimal, spacious feeling? Whether you’re sprucing up your house or moving into a new one, hidden speakers are an increasingly popular option for music lovers. Instead of installing bulky equipment to build a whole-home audio system, you can enjoy high-quality sound without speakers in sight.
If you’re wondering how hidden audio works, you’ve come to the right place. As an AV integrator based in Pasadena and Greater Los Angeles, we’ll share all you need to know about hidden speakers below.

What Is Hidden Audio?
Hidden audio involves installing speakers inside walls or ceilings, concealed inconspicuously by a flat, paintable speaker grille. We can take hidden speakers even further by embedding them within a wall and covering them with the wall surface. This is referred to as “invisible audio” and can be painted or wallpapered over, leaving no trace of audio equipment.
How Is It Installed?
Installing in-wall and in-ceiling speakers requires running wires through the walls first. When we install hidden speaker systems, we design a wiring map to plot where cables, speakers, and audio controls will go in each area. Behind the walls, we install brackets to hold speakers in place before hanging drywall.
As for the amplifier, media controller, and other audio equipment, we’ll store them in a closet or utility room so they’re also hidden. In-wall wiring will connect back to this utility room, and you’ll be free to wirelessly control the hidden speaker system from any location.
Want something a little simpler that still preserves your interior design? Custom-made soundbars from brands like Leon and James Loudspeaker may be customized to perfectly fit your TV and room’s aesthetics.
How Is the Sound Quality?
Hidden audio may be convenient and aesthetically pleasing, but does it sound good? If installed correctly and with quality speaker brands, you’ll enjoy clear, rich audio, even hidden within walls and ceilings. And yes, it sounds great!
Hidden audio is more common than you may think. Often, movie theaters, restaurants, and venues use in-wall and in-ceiling speakers. We probably wouldn’t recommend in-wall speakers for a stereo listening setup, but hidden speakers work perfectly for multi-room audio and home theater systems.
